It could be said that while the kiosk and digital signage industry has been integral in assisting continued commerce in a world demanding safe and healthy options, those same health and safety restrictions may have been detrimental to the industry’s evolution. It could even be said that it may have stunted the creativity of innovators who challenge the status quo and push the boundaries of progress, taking the industry to the next level. Laura Vallis Editor FOREWORD 3 KIOSK AND DIGITAL SIGNAGE MAGAZINE EDITOR’S NOTENEWS IN BRIEF 4KIOSK AND DIGITAL SIGNAGE MAGAZINE YAHOO ANNOUNCES INTEGRATION WITH DAX Yahoo has announced a new integration with DAX, the digital advertising exchange created and operated by Global. DAX’s premium digital outdoor inventory is now available for advertising partners to purchase programmatically through Yahoo’s omnichannel DSP. The integration means Yahoo DSP customers can now activate digital outdoor campaigns on DAX’s inventory of over 2,400 premium digital screens across the UK, including the ultra-HD new format screens on Transport for London’s Elizabeth line, delivering premium commuter reach for advertisers. It will also help brands deliver measurable, contextual campaigns to target audiences with dynamic ad-serving capabilities, real-time ad rendering, audience insights, and more. Josh Partridge, Head of EMEA at Yahoo, said: “Global’s premium digital screens add flexibility and reach to any multi-channel digital ad campaign and through our platform, advertisers can connect to people when they’re out and about as well as on their mobiles, desktops, TVs, headphones and more. It also means that the Yahoo DSP now reaches over 90% of the UK’s programmatic Digital Out-of- Home screens.” Mark Halliday, Global’s Director of DAX said: “With Yahoo’s impressive client network, we’re looking forward to seeing ad campaigns brought to life and used in clever ways to make the most of our programmatic and data capabilities.” Zytronic has supplied Evoke Creative and Worldline with an interactive touchscreen for new ticket vending machines (TVMs). Initially installed and trialled by Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) at Gatwick Airport, the kiosks are now being rolled out to other stations across the UK’s rail network. As one of the UK’s busiest rail operators, GTR was looking for a TVM design with a large, full-screen interface. Improved ticket purchasing was a key requirement, facilitating a more rapid passage for travellers. Combining Worldline’s expertise in payment solutions with Evoke Creative’s know-how in kiosk design, the new TVMs support the ambitions of The Williams-Schapps Plan for Rail strategy to improve the ticket purchasing experience for rail users. The large, easy- to-clean surface is made from a single piece of elongated glass measuring 80in (diagonal), which protects the TVM’s two large displays and gives the kiosk a sleek appearance. The top screen is for travel information and other targeted content; the bottom is touch active for selecting and buying tickets. Zytronic and their UK partner, Display Technology, were selected because of Zytronic’s ability to customise the projected capacitive touch sensors to meet the client’s exact requirements and specification, together with its renowned reliability. The company’s willingness to produce low volumes for initial product development was another important factor in the decision. In addition, the fact that Evoke were already very happy with the performance of Zytronic’s touch technology in existing unattended ticketing kiosk applications clinched the deal. As these TVMs are mainly unsupervised, their elongated surface NEW TICKET VENDING MACHINES ACROSS UK’S RAIL NETWORK WITH A TOUCH FROM ZYTRONIC is made from 6mm thick, thermally toughened glass, which delivers optimum vandal resistance. The glass was custom machined and printed at Zytronic’s manufacturing facility in the UK. It has two viewable areas with only the lower screen touch interactive, utilising Zytronic’s ZyBrid touch technology and patented ZXY500 multi-touch controller. Similar to a smartphone’s touchscreen, the interactive area of the TVM provides a millisecond-fast, accurate touch response, enabling users to interact easily with the ticket-purchasing software – even when wearing gloves. “These new self-service ticket vending machines are a demonstration of GTRs commitment to enhance the rail customer experience,” said David Gornall, Commercial Director, GTR. “The screen customer experience and purchase flow, aligned more with a web experience, is a positive step forward in rail retail innovation.” Publish your news and company announcements here Contact: editor@kdseurope.com5 KIOSK AND DIGITAL SIGNAGE MAGAZINE AV STUMPFL PRESENTS ANYSHAPE AT ISE 2023 Austrian AV technology manufacturer, AV Stumpfl, will present their new AnyShape projection screen system and PIXERA multi-user workflow features at the upcoming ISE trade fair in Barcelona, Spain. AnyShape technology makes it possible to order custom-built projection screens with a great variety of different frame shapes straight from the factory. The ability to build frame shapes that are not rectangular, for example, circles, rounded edges or semi-circles, can revolutionise the way in which designers creatively use projection surfaces. AV Stumpfl’s Global Business Development Manager for Screens, Jan Walter explains the characteristics of AnyShape technology: “It’s really a paradigm shift. Instead of only thinking in terms of the projected content first, now the projection surface itself can be the starting point of a creative idea. Whether triangles, doughnut shapes or similar designs, we can now offer a lot of different types of custom frames, thanks to AnyShape. If you can visualise it, we can build it.” AV professionals working with media servers will see the latest PIXERA developments presented at ISE for the first time. The new multi-user workflow features will allow media server operators to be much more flexible and efficient when working on complex installations or show environments. Multiple PIXERA director licenses can now be synched, with users being able to choose between different levels of granularity when working within a multi-user scenario. AV Stumpfl will also present its PIXERA four media server at ISE. The system is perfect for highly demanding real-time graphics applications and broadcast setups. imageHolders’ bespoke kiosk technology has helped ViewPoint Feedback develop a new range of touchless self-service solutions - ensuring customers, employees, patients and students continue to leave vital real-time responses. The new touchless devices match the trademark design and functionality of ViewPoint Feedback’s satisfaction survey stations – complete with smiley face buttons, icons and text – but in a format that addresses user concerns about virus transmission, especially in high footfall areas and healthcare environments. Christian Bosence from imageHolders said: “imageHolders and ViewPoint have worked closely together for a number of years, so when their team identified the need to adapt the latest touchless technology, they knew who to come to. We took time to understand the user journey, the expectations of the technology and budgetary targets before putting the ‘best in class’ solution together. I look forward to seeing more of these units out in the wild and the seamless user interaction being experienced by users.” Simon Lovell from ViewPoint added: “Our experience working with ImageHolders to develop this product for our customers was a positive one. We felt listened to when we were developing the features and overall look and feel for the kiosk. We had a great rapport with the team, which made communication effortless. Ultimately, we developed the best touchless feedback device on the market - what better outcome can there be?” ViewPoint Feedback is a provider of real-time customer, employee, patient and student satisfaction reporting. It works with a wide variety of organisations, to provide data and insights to increase customer and employee satisfaction. Real- time feedback is the most valuable for organisations, as it captures people in the moment, providing the most accurate picture. Gartner research has shown that asking for feedback just 24 hours later is up to 40% less accurate. The optimum way to capture this feedback is on a self-service kiosk solution. Impressed by an imageHolders demonstration of how simple to use and responsive touchless solutions could be, ViewPoint Feedback worked closely with the kiosk specialist to develop a suite of solutions that are intuitive, effective and totally on brand. imageHolders was able to create a touchless line-up, based around a 10in screen, that offered a similar user experience to the rest of ViewPoint Feedback’s product range. The touchless technology provides a great talking point for the ViewPoint sales team, and successfully captures their customers' attention, as well as creating international appeal. Above all, the final solution is commercially viable and meets the end user’s needs.
